Local law register
Local councils can make laws to deal with issues in their local government area. We make these laws in line with the Local Government Act 2009.

The purpose of this local law is to provide a legal framework for the administration, implementation and enforcement of the local government's local laws and subordinate local laws.
This local law only applies to:

- Local Law No. 5 (Parks, Jetties and Boat Ramps) 2011, and its subordinate local laws

- Local Law No. 7 (Parking) 2003, and its subordinate local laws
- Local Law No. 8 (Waste Management) 2018, and its subordinate local laws

This local law does not apply to a State-controlled road unless the chief executive of the department which administers Chapter 6 (Road Transport Infrastructure) of the Transport Infrastructure Act 1994 has given written approval to the local government to exercise all or any of the powers under this local law in respect of the State-controlled road.

This local law covers administration of management centre, keeping and control of animal, seizure impounding and destruction of animal, enforcement and administrative provisions.
The purpose of this local law is to regulate the keeping of animals:
- to protect the community against risk of injury and damage
- to ensure that animals do not create a nuisance or a risk to human health or safety
- to prevent environmental harm and environment nuisance resulting from the keeping of animals and to protect the amenity of the local environment
- to ensure that animals are kept and used in a way that is consistent with the rights, expectations and enjoyment of the local community.

This local law covers administration of parks, regulation of parks, regulation of public places other than parks, jetties and boat ramps, permits, enforcement and administrative provisions.
The purpose of this local law is to:
- ensure that public access and use of a park is in accordance with the preservation of public safety and amenity
- ensure the protection of the environment and the facilities of a park
- regulate the use of, and the conduct of persons in parks and on jetties and boat ramps
- regulate the construction and demolition of jetties and boat ramps.

The purpose of this local law is to regulate smoking in a smoke free place to promote a healthy environment and enhance the general amenity and appearance of the local government area by:
- establishing smoke free places
- specifying a penalty for offences in respect of smoking in a smoke free place.

This local law covers regulation of parking, heavy vehicle parking on a road or in a public place, enforcement and administrative provisions.
The purpose of this local law is to regulate parking in traffic areas, on roads and in off-street regulated parking areas in the local government area by:
- establishing and regulating parking in traffic areas, on roads and in offstreet regulated parking area
- fixing parking fees and regulating paid parking
- meeting the parking needs of people with disabilities
- giving the local government power to issue parking permits
- imposing temporary parking prohibitions and restrictions
- the regulation of heavy vehicle parking on roads and in public places in the local government area
- specifying, for the purposes of a parking infringement notice, penalties for certain offences under State laws in respect of traffic management in the local government area.
