PC2.1.1 - City of Logan corporate rebrand


Deliver the citywide rebrand project in line with the project plan.


Purpose: To bring a valued and unified visual identity to Council and the City of Logan.

In 2022/23 the project achieved:

  • Waste Transfer Stations Recycle Market signage updated
  • trademarking of sub brands completed
  • branding review of all Community Centres completed, rebranding and installation of new signage completed
  • branding updates completed at the Parks Depot, Roads Construction Maintenance and Plant Fleet Services buildings

Parks Statutory Signage manual developed and implemented 

  • branding review of Administration building reception completed 
  • Waste Education Centre signage review undertaken and signage update developed
  • Gould Adams Park sign and Park Ridge suburb sign repairs and rebrand completed
  • Totally Independent Managed Supply (TIMS) truck rebrand complete, Water Tower updates complete

  • Cornubia Sports Centre signage update commenced
  • Administration Centre foyer and meeting rooms artwork and signage updated

PC2.2.1 - City of Logan: Safe City Strategy and Action Plan 2021-2025

Deliver the second-year actions outlined in the City of Logan: Safe City Strategy and Action Plan 2021-2025 through a broad range of crime prevention and community-based safety initiatives.

Purpose: To create a safer City of Logan.

June 2023 Completed

Throughout June 2023, eight community engagement initiatives from the Safe City Strategy and Action Plan 2021 - 2025 were delivered, including, senior safety, perceptions of crime, fraud and scams, and home and vehicle security.

PC2.2.2 - Swim Logan
 

Deliver water safety awareness education sessions. Provide culturally appropriate learn-to-swim activities for:

  • First Nations people
  • newly arrived migrants and refugees.
Purpose: To increase participant swimming skills.
December 2022 Completed Swim Logan 2020-22 achieved the following highlights:
  • 649 newly arrived migrants and refugees attended 95 water safety sessions at various locations across the city.
  • 1,193 newly arrived migrants and refugees attended 46 learn to swim programs, resulting in 7,792 attendances.
  • 137 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants attended 8 swim programs resulting in 605 attendances.
  • 1,979 newly arrived migrants, refugees, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants engaged in 95 water safety awareness sessions.
  • 440 individual swimming lessons were delivered.
  • the project successfully exceeded its total target of 4,000 attendances across water safety awareness sessions and individual swimming lessons with 9,046 attendances.
  • 1,200 welcome bags were provided to migrants and refugees, consisting of goggles, a swim cap and welcome card in language.
  • 154 participants were provided with culturally appropriate swimwear, nappies and incontinence pads.
  • 150 shirts designed by local indigenous artist, Casey Coolwell, were provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants and instructors.
  • 20 Islamic swimwear sets were distributed.
  • 475 participants accessed free childcare during lesson times.
  • 85 participants were identified as high needs and accessed an extra lessons.
  • 100 participants attended first aid and CPR awareness training.
  • 9 newly arrived migrants and refugees were employed as Bicultural Aquatic Assistants.
  • 4 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people were upskilled as pool lifeguards.
  • 30 staff members and 15 Swim Logan participants undertook Cultural Awareness in Aquatics (CAIA) training.
  • 4 key water safety messages were translated into 5 different languages with signage now displayed in Council-owned pools.

PC2.2.3 - KRANK School Holiday Program

Deliver a school holiday program for 5- to 17-year-olds.


Purpose: To encourage participation in active and healthy programs.


To increase community participation during school holidays.

June 2023 Completed

June 2023 key highlights include the attendance at 2 large community events to increase awareness of the program. The Logan Eco Action Festival and the Forde Family Fun Expo were attended, engaging with over 500 people.

From July 2022 to June 2023, the KRANK School Holiday program engaged with 48 service providers to deliver 526 unique activities. This resulted in 7,625 individual participants attending activities delivered by the KRANK School Holiday program.

PC2.2.4 - Active and Healthy Program

Deliver a health and wellbeing program for all Logan residents.
Purpose: To encourage participation in:
  • affordable and accessible physical activities
  • health and wellbeing programs.
June 2023 Completed

June 2023 key highlights include: 

  • 110 health and wellbeing activities were delivered
  • 2,046 people participated in the Active & Healthy program from April to June
  • over 200 different health and wellbeing activities were programmed for the 2023/24 financial year
  • 87 different health and wellbeing activities already being delivered in community were included in the 23/24 Active & Healthy program.

From July 2022 to June 2023, the Active & Healthy program engaged with 44 service providers to deliver 1,312 individual health and wellbeing activities. This resulted in 8,134 individual participants supporting their physical, mental, and social wellbeing by attending classes delivered by the Active & Healthy program.

PC2.2.5 - Libraries Learning and Discovery Strategy 2019-2023

Deliver the outcomes of the Libraries Learning and Discovery Strategy 2019-2023.

This is delivered through the 6 priorities of:

  • access and inclusion

    Purpose: To support Logan's community through purposeful library programming

  • embracing life-long curiosity and discovery.

Completed

A wide range of library programs and outreach activities were provided across the city, including programs supporting residents to improve their digital literacy skills, job seeking assistance, creative writing sessions. Many programs were provided to support residents to increase their economic opportunities, learn new skills and enhance their wellbeing, such as English for migrants and the ever-popular Tui n Friends events for young families. 

Popular school holiday and adult programs featured sustainability-themed events during June, as well as our ongoing Story Time in the Park sessions enjoyed by young families and Men's Conversation Collectives. 

During June:

  • 5,404 residents attended 441 library programs and library outreach activities 
  • 226 take home packs celebrating National Pride Month were distributed from Logan Libraries.

Quarter four update: 

  • 18,916 attendees participated at Logan Libraries programs during quarter four
  • library programs including Job Help, Tech Help, Be Connected, Writing Fridays, Family History and a range of local heritage information sessions continued to support residents to enhance their economic opportunities, connect with others in their community, learn new skills, become more confident online and discover new interests
  • young children and their families gained valuable knowledge and skills towards becoming school-ready at First 5 Forever programs in the community and early literacy sessions at our 9 libraries

PC2.3.1 - Events Strategy deployment

Deliver strategic outcomes from the endorsed Events Strategy.

Purpose: To enhance delivery of the existing events portfolio.

Events Delivered across quarter include:  

  • Imagination Children's Festival at Kingston Butter Factory (KBF) on 5 April 2023 attracted 5,000 attendees 
  • Eats and Beats at IKEA on 21 April 2023 attracted 2,500 attendees 
  • ANAZC Day Services at Logan Central and Jimboomba on 25 April 2023 attracted more than 2,500 attendees per service  
  • Volunteers Thankyou Breakfast at Logan Entertainment Centre (LEC) on13 May 2023 attracted 450 attendees 
  • 2 x Citizenship Ceremonies at LEC on 29 May 2023 attracted more than 500 attendees per ceremony 
  • Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) at Griffith University, Meadowbrook on 4 June 2023 attracted more than 7,000 attendees 
  • Eats and Beats at Kingston Butter Factory (KBF) on 30 June 2023 attracted 2,750 attendees  

Sports Marketing Attraction: 
During quarter 4 we hosted four events that were secured through the Events Attraction Program including:

  • 2023 Australian Esports League Event (Premium Level Event)
  • 2023 Gymnastics Queensland (QLD) Senior State Championships - Rhythmic, Aerobic and Trampolining Gymnastics
  • 2023 Tennis Qld Junior Tournament Series - Beenleigh (Boys only)
  • 2023 Tennis Qld Junior Tournament Series - Canterbury (Girls only)

This was an investment of $40,600 with the estimated return on investment (ROI) being $995,508 (24:1)

We successfully secured one new event being the 2023 Squash Queensland Open event in October 2023. The investment is $9,700 and ROI of $607,500 (63:1).

We have submitted one bid being for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 Pickleball Australia Association (PAA) Australian Pickleball Championships. The three-year investment is $52,500 with an economic impact of $2,941,200 per year (168:1).

PC2.3.2 - Reconciliation Action Plan

Progress a detailed development plan for Council's next Reconciliation Action Plan.

Purpose: To:

  • strengthen relationships
  • build knowledge within Council
  • identify opportunities
  • work towards outcomes that will support the organisation and Logan's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

June 2023 key highlights include:

  • The First Nations Community Development Officer position has been vacant during this reporting period
  • 1 Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Ambassador sharing circle took place at Logan Central Library with 30 ambassadors in attendance.

From June 2022 to July 2023 the following key highlights were achieved to progress Council's next RAP:

  • Executive Leadership Team endorsed a report on Thursday 19 January to progress with Council's third Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan
  • The Reconciliation Ambassador Program has grown to 102 members
  • 2 sharing circles have been delivered resulting in a total of 45 Ambassador attendees
  • Supported the Logan Central First Nations School Cluster network to host a Services Fair at Logan Central Library in September 2022
  • Successful coordination and delivery of Logan's 2022 NAIDOC event on Wednesday 17 August, in partnership with the Logan District Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Elders, with 24 stall holders participating, resulting in 805 attendees.

For noting, the First Nations Community Development Officer position has been vacant since March 2023. Current action is being taken with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to determine strategic fit of this position. Once the position has been recruited, Council's third Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan will be delivered as endorsed by ELT and outlined in the 2023/24 Operational Plan.

PC2.3.3 - Access and Inclusion Plan

Coordinate and support implementation of the Access and Inclusion Plan 2019-2022.

Purpose: To create a more accessible and inclusive city for everyone.

As at the end of the second quarter the Access and Inclusion Plan 2019/2022 progressed well and is now completed. The following key highlights were achieved: 

  • prepared and presented the Access and Inclusion Plan 2019-2022 outcome report to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Community Lifestyle Committee. This highlighted that 83 out of the 84 actions have been achieved in the plan with an additional 11 actions delivered over the past 4 years. 
  • following community consultation, 40 staff representatives from 26 branches have developed 103 actions to form the draft Disability Action Plan 2023-2025.
  • The draft Disability Action Plan 2023-2025 was presented to the Community and Lifestyle Committee on Wednesday 7 December 2022 and was endorsed for public consultation.
  • The draft Disability Action Plan 2023-2025 was released for public consultation via Council's Have Your Say platform on Thursday 15 December 2022 and was open until for public consultation until Sunday 5 February 2023.
  • following public consultation, the draft Disability Action Plan 2023-2025 progressed to final stages, was presented to the Community and Lifestyle Committee on Wednesday 15 March 2023 and was consequently endorsed by Council for immediate action.

PC2.3.4 - Community development initiatives

Deliver community development initiatives that strengthen and build the community.

Purpose: To respond to local priorities.

June 2023

Completed

From July 2022 to June 2023 a range of community development initiatives were delivered to the community. The following key highlights were achieved:

  • 7 Stories from the Kitchen dinners were delivered in partnership with local community centres, schools and the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct. The dinners were supported by 8 volunteers and resulted in 190 attendees from 29 different cultural backgrounds.
  • 9 Chatty Café sessions were delivered in partnership with 4 local cafe's and supported by 17 volunteers, which resulted in a total of 158 attendees. 
  • Connect 4 Seniors picnic, delivered in partnership with the Logan Seniors network, was held at Tygum Park on Wednesday 26 October 2023 to celebrate Seniors Month. 200 resource bags were provided to seniors and carers and 40 Logan 'Mums n Bubs' families attended to engage with elderly residents.
  • 2 Neighbour Day events were delivered in partnership with Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre and Logan Village Community Centre resulting in over 300 attendees.
  • over 4,500 homelessness support resources were distributed internally and externally, including an updated version of Logan Street Services guide. 
  • Logan City Council joined the Welcoming Cities Network and became an official Welcoming Cities member. An application for bench marked assessment has been submitted.
  • 5 Logan Youth Action Group meetings were delivered supporting 101 young community leaders to achieve their projects. This included 'Stressed Out' and 'Party Safe' youth resources, mental health and community safety workshops and a Koala Family Fun Day resulting in a combined attendance of 1,300 attendees. 
  • 53 applications to be part of the 2023 Logan Youth Action Group were received, including 13 returning members.

PC2.3.5 - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary Program

Deliver the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary.

Purpose: To support employment opportunities in Council for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Completed

The 2022-2023 program commenced with one student appointed and another to be appointed during 2023.

Information was distributed to schools enabling the submission of applications for the bursary. Interviews were undertaken and an offer was made.

The successful candidate commenced in March, working 2 days per week with Council's Development Assessment Branch and has now integrated well into the role.

PC2.3.6 - Living Museum of Logan

Deliver the Living Museum of Logan exhibition and programs in collaboration with the community.

Purpose: To:

  • share the stories of our culturally diverse communities and of Logan’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • share themes of importance to Logan's people
  • enhance visitor experience to the City of Logan

Quarter four update:

  • The Living Museum of Logan continued to develop new audiences for the current exhibition program through tours, workshops and being open during other Kingston Butter Factory events. 
  • During quarter four 3 schools tours were presented to 168 students. 
  • During the quarter, 5 public programs and a self-led kids school holiday program was presented to 326 people. 

Outcome: 
Provision of quality exhibitions, public programs, and museum tours. A total of 11,098 people visited the Living Museum of Logan during quarter four which included 2,903 in June 2023. This brings the total number of visitors for the 2022/2023 financial year to 36,326.

PC2.4.1 - Enhancement to City Administration Centre main entry

Deliver an enhanced main entry to the Logan city Council City Administration Centre.

Purpose: To provide a more attractive area for customers conducting routine business.

Completed

The items that were part of the updated project scope include refreshing of the main entry, additional plants in the garden beds with various tropical species of plants, and installation of a concrete mowing edge.

The project has been completed with a reduced budget.
