Alamein Street Intersections Upgrade Frequently Asked Questions

Where will the works take place?

We are upgrading intersections at Alamein and George streets and at Alamein and Main streets in Beenleigh.

Why are you doing these works?

The intersections are being upgraded to improve safety. Benefits will include enhanced traffic flow, more reliable travel times and safer movement for road users and pedestrians.

What works are being done?

The Alamein Street and George Street intersection upgrade will include:

  • new traffic signals
  • a CCTV camera
  • modified traffic islands
  • new kerb, channel and ramps 
  • landscaping.

And the Alamein Street and Main Street intersection upgrade will include:

  • new traffic signals 
  • a modified footpath and new kerb ramp
  • a reconstructed traffic nose cone
  • a block wall
  • resurfaced pavement.

Why is construction taking place at night?

Most works will occur at night to minimise disruption to traffic, residents and businesses, while we undertake these important upgrades.

Given Alamein Street is a ring road and main thoroughfare it experiences high daytime traffic. Night works will assist traffic flow during peak times and reduce impacts on pedestrian, mobility, bicycle, and scooter use.

How will you manage traffic?

Traffic controllers and police will be in place during work hours when required.

What impacts can I expect from the construction works?

Temporary impacts may involve changed traffic conditions including reduced speed limits, road or path closures and detours. There may also be increased noise, dust, vibration and temporary street parking loss. The project team will limit these as best possible and we encourage users to plan for the disruptions.

Directly impacted properties or businesses will also be notified by our contractor ahead of construction. Detours will be in place and changes to traffic, pedestrian and mobility vehicle use will be signed.

How can I best prepare for the project works?

We encourage users to plan their journey and take alternate routes where possible.

We also urge households and businesses with specific access needs for health or other reasons to contact Council early so we can prepare for these, where possible.  

When will these works occur?

These works are scheduled from early November 2024 to mid-2025, weather and construction conditions allowing. 

Will public transport and school bus services continue to operate uninterrupted?

Bus stops will not be affected by these works. However, bus routes and travel times may be impacted by traffic disruptions due to daytime construction aftercare and night works. Translink routes likely to be affected include 553, 562, 563, 564, 565, 566, 568, 728, 729 and school routes 3339, 4170, 4173, 4270, 4271 and 4272.

Will the road works affect my bin collection, postal services, delivery trucks, water or electricity meter reading?

Council’s waste contractor will be advised of any changes to plan services and determine access arrangements.

Site personnel will be available to move bins where necessary on collection days.

Logan Water and other utility providers (for example, Energex) will also be advised of the works so they can plan service changes and continue to read your water and electricity meters.

Residents are encouraged to advise any regular at-home service providers or visitors of the current traffic arrangements as needed.

When are you working near my property?

Our contractor will notify nearby houses before undertaking works at any location. 

Will my driveway access be affected?

Driveway access will largely be maintained, even if the location is signed as closed. Where access is temporarily impacted, our contractor will provide notice in advance. Please feel free to also speak with the traffic controllers. If required, they may need to escort you through the work zone or ask you to wait for a short period until it is safe to drive, walk or ride.
