Overview

The City of Logan Sports Awards pay tribute to our city’s athletes, sporting staff, and sports events. The Awards recognise home-grown sporting icons whose accomplishments have seen them reach the highest level in their chosen sport.

Categories and Eligibility Criteria

Nominations must outline information and achievements of the nominee in the period of 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024.

Young Athlete of the Year

The nominee must:

• Be a resident of Logan.
• Be between the ages of 13 to 18 years.
• Have competed at a distinction of local, regional, state, national or international level.

Athlete of the Year

The nominee must:

• Be a resident of Logan.
• Be between the ages of 19 to 34 years.
• Have competed at a distinction of local, regional, state, national or international level.

Athlete with a Disability of the Year

The nominee must:

• Be a resident of Logan.
• Be 13 years or older.
• Have competed at a distinction of local, regional, state, national or international level.

Master Athlete of the Year

The nominee must:

• Be a resident of Logan.
• Be 35 years or older.
• Have competed at a distinction of local, regional, state, national or international level.

Sports Administrator of the Year

The nominee must be either:

• An administrator who is a resident of Logan
• An administrator who is affiliated with a Logan sport organisation.

Sports Coach of the Year

The nominee must be either:

• A coach who is a resident of Logan
• A coach who is affiliated with a Logan sport organisation and/or school.

Sports Official of the Year

The nominee must be either:

• A coach who is a resident of Logan
• A coach who is affiliated with a Logan sport organisation and/or school.

Sports Organisation of the Year

• Located within Logan
• Affiliated at a state and national level.

Sports Team of the Year

• Team members are 13 years or older.
• Affiliated with a Logan sport organisation and/or school.
• Competed at a distinction of local, state, national or international level.

Sports Event of the Year

• Occurred during the outlined period.
• Took place within Logan.

Nomination Process

• Nominations may only be made online via the official nomination forms which can be found at City of Logan Sports Awards – Logan City Council
• Nominations must be received by midnight on 4 September 2024. Late nominations will be not considered.
• Nominations provided in hard copy, email, USB or cloud storage will not be accepted.
• Nominations are to be certified by the respective sport’s governing body.
• Nominees may nominate for more than one category.
• Nominees agree to allow the use of their nomination information for publicity purposes.
• All nomination information and material submitted remains the property of Logan City Council and will not be returned.
• Nominees agree to make themselves available, without cost, for publicity purposes as required prior to, and after, the Awards Presentation.
• It’s the responsibility of the nominator to advise the nominee that they’ve been nominated and obtain endorsement from them.

Assessment Criteria

Young Athlete of the Year, Athlete of the Year, Athlete with a Disability of the Year and Master Athlete of the Year

• Level of competition competed at (e.g. local, regional, state, national or international)
• Achievements and results
• Positions held and awards won.
• Contribution towards their sport, club, and Logan community
• Evidence and supporting information.

Sports Administrator of the Year, Sports Coach of the Year and Sports Official of the Year

• Achievements within the role.
• Contributions to the development and success to the organisation/s, team/s, or athlete/s.
• Evidence and supporting information.

Sports Organisation of the Year

• On and off field achievements
• Contributions to the overall development and success in the organisation.
• Evidence and supporting information.

Sports Team of the Year

• Achievements and results.
• Level of competition competed at (e.g. local, regional, state, national or international)
• Evidence and supporting information.

Sports Event of the Year

• Achievements and results.
• Level of event held at (e.g. local, regional, state, national or international)
• Evidence and supporting information.

Judging

The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into. The judges reserve the right to not allocate an award in any of the award categories if, in their opinions, the nominations are of insufficient merit.

The judges reserve the right to allocate additional special recognition awards (e.g. Judges Choice, Banksia) as they see appropriate.

The Overall Award for Sporting Excellence will be selected by the Judging Panel from the winners of:

• Young Athlete of the Year
• Athlete of the Year
• Athlete with a Disability of the Year
• Master Athlete of the Year

Awards Ceremony

Finalist in each category will be contacted at least three weeks prior to the City of Logan Sports Awards and will be asked to participate in a finalist video.

Those selected as finalists should be available to attend the City of Logan Sports Awards on Saturday 2 November 2024. Inability to attend does not disqualify entry. Only finalists will receive 4 free tickets to attend the City of Logan Sports Awards.

Each finalist will receive a certificate at the City of Logan Sports Awards. Winners of the category will receive a trophy.

Consent

• Information (including photos) provided as part of the nomination process will be used for the purpose of conducting the Awards and promoting the City of Logan services to the community. The photo and name use can include, but is not limited to, social media, website, Council publications and newspapers. Please ensure permission to use images and details of the nominees have been gained.
• By submitting all documentation and photos you are acknowledging that Logan City Council may use them in the public domain.
• Decisions regarding winners are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
• In the event that there are no suitable nominations received in any category, the panel reserves the right to withdraw that category for the relevant year.
