Responsible cat ownership

Every cat must be registered, desexed and microchipped in the City of Logan. Registration is an annual fee.

If you want to keep your cat outside, there are many styles of enclosures and specialised fencing options available. A cat enclosure must be constructed in such a way that it prevents the cat from escaping under, over or through your property boundary.

Cats must be kept in a way that prevents them from being able to leave your property boundary to roam and cause a nuisance. This is easily achieved by keeping your cats indoors.

Are you able to keep more cats?

The number of cats you can keep on your property depends on your property size. If you are unsure about your property size you can enter your address into our My Property tool to find out.

Some indoor cats are happy to laze around in a sunny spot but if you have a more energetic cat you can enrich their life indoors by:

  • using old carboard boxes to provide your cat with entertainment
  • using textured paper, string, wool, small amounts of masking tape and ribbons to make toys
  • swapping out toys each day to keep them interested
  • provide your cat with a scratching post to stop them scratching your furniture.

Wandering cats

Roaming cats create nuisance by:

  • causing dogs to bark
  • fighting and breeding unwanted litters with other cats
  • menacing or killing domestic birds, poultry and wildlife. Even well fed cats hunt instinctively
  • sleeping on neighbours' vehicles, urinating and defecating on others property.

If your cat wanders outside of its enclosure, it’s in danger of getting lost, trapped or impounded, injured or killed, or causing an accident.

If you see a wandering cat, please call us on 07 3412 3412.
