Portable speed advisory signs are solar-powered radar signs that display your speed as you drive past. These signs are used at select locations as a road safety initiative to reduce speeding.
Motorists travelling at or below the speed limit will see a 'smiley face'. Motorists travelling over the speed limit will see a 'slow down' message.
The portable speed advisory signs are not used to issue fines and there is no camera photographing vehicles that go past.
Neighbouring councils already using portable signs have reported that drivers who see a 'slow down' message usually reduce their speed.
