Enclosure requirements
Preventing your horses from wandering is an important part of being a responsible pet owner. Enclosures should be in a clean and tidy condition at all times.
Enclosures must not be:
- within 10 metres of a neighbouring dwelling
- within 10 metres of any premises operated for the purposes of the manufacture, preparation, storage or sale of food for human consumption
- within 2 metres of the boundary of the property
Stallions must have double fencing around the perimeter of their enclosure.
General requirements
As a responsible pet owner, you must make sure keeping the horses does not cause:
- a build-up of animal faeces
- breeding or harbouring of flies or vermin
- damage to property
- harm to human health or safety
- nuisance
- disruption to a neighbour’s enjoyment
