We are advising City of Logan residents to prepare now for Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Flood Watch bulletins have been issued for the Logan and Albert Rivers.
Residents should:
Check or make an emergency kit
- Find out how to get ready and pack an emergency kit
- This includes thinking about:
- Food and water
- Medication, nappies and other sanitary supplies
- Pets
- Power including portable power banks
- Communication including your mobile phone and chargers etc.
Prepare your property
- Fill your car with fuel or charge it. Park it undercover. Do not park under a tree.
- Put away or tie down outside items like furniture, gas bottles, and play equipment.
- If your home is not safe, plan to stay with family or friends.
- Know your property’s flood risk.
- Find out how to safely turn off power, solar, water, and gas to your house. Be ready to turn it off if told to.
- Check your family, friends and neighbours know what to do. Help them if you can.
If you find it hard to move quickly or have special or medical needs
- Use your Person-Centred Emergency Plan (P-CEP) now if you have one.
- Make sure you have enough medicine for at least one week. If anyone in your house uses powered medical equipment, like a dialysis machine or ventilator, decide now where you will go in case you lose power.
- Call your support person or service to organise transport if you need to leave.
- Leaving early is safer than waiting.
Sandbags
- Loose sand and empty bags are available at the following locations:
- Beenleigh Showgrounds, Milne Street (entrance closest to Kent Street)
- Logan Metro Sports Centre, 357 Browns Plains Road, Crestmead (do not turn left into the Indoor Sports Centre; head to the sports park at the back)
- Jimboomba Park carpark, South Street (near the skatepark)
- As these sites are currently not staffed, people will need to fill bags up themselves. Shovels will be provided.
- Filled sandbags are available at:
- Logan East SES, 26-36 Winnetts Rd, Daisy Hill between 2:00pm and 6:00pm Monday, March 3
Green waste
- Logan residents and ratepayers can dispose of green waste at our Waste and Recycling facilities free of charge.
- Loads greater than two cubic metres cannot be taken to the Beenleigh Waste and Recycling Facility. It is preferable that green waste is taken to one of the other facilities at Browns Plains, Carbrook, Logan Village or Greenbank.
Kerbside clean-up in Yarrabilba, Tamborine, Cedar Creek and Kairabah
- Our contractors will prioritise kerbside clean-up in Yarrabilba before Thursday, March 6.
- Residents of Tamborine, Cedar Creek and Kairabah are asked to bring their items back inside before Wednesday, March 5 and weather pending, return items to the footpath on Sunday for collection from Monday, March 10.
Water play parks
If you are a tourist, visitor, camper or caravanner
- Campers and caravanners should start packing up now.
- If you do not need to be in the warning area, leave now. Check road conditions and plan your route before you leave.
- If you stay, ask accommodation staff where to shelter if the cyclone comes.
- We are working with relevant agencies to prepare and support people who are staying in our parks around the city over the coming days.
