Project overview
The Clarke Road project is one of the many future road upgrades planned for Park Ridge, designed to enhance connectivity with surrounding suburbs and improve road safety. This initiative will ensure our local road network remains fit for purpose well into the future.
With our city’s population set to increase by more than 50 per cent by 2041, we are expecting higher traffic volumes in Park Ridge and the surrounding areas. These road improvements will ensure our road network can safely accommodate rising traffic demands as development and population growth continue.
As part of this effort, Council is seeking to secure sufficient land to preserve a road corridor for the future widening and intersection upgrades of Clarke Road.

Project timing
The preliminary design is complete and has been used to inform the proposed land acquisition requirements for Clarke Road’s future upgrade.
Discussions with residents impacted by land acquisition has commenced.
The future upgrade of Clarke Road is anticipated to be completed between the years 2030 and 2032, pending the completion of detailed design investigations.
We will keep the community updated as we progress through the design process.
Project features
The design includes:
- one vehicle travel lane in each direction
- dedicated parking lanes on both sides of the road
- active transport facilities with the installation of concrete footpaths on both sides of the road including a 2.5m wide shared path facility for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as on-road cycle lanes
- kerb and channel, as well as underground drainage to direct stormwater flows during storm events
- new, safer intersections with dedicated turning lanes and traffic signals at key locations
- secure sufficient land to preserve a road corridor that enables future development and infrastructure to be successfully planned around it.
Please note, the preliminary design is subject to change as detailed design investigations progress.
Project benefits
The Clarke Road Upgrade will deliver a range of benefits, including:
- A wider road corridor including parking and active transport facilities to promote a safer road environment for existing and future road users.
- Better north-south connectivity for residential and industrial development in Park Ridge and surrounding suburbs.
- Quicker and more reliable travel times
- Improved road capacity to accommodate future growth
- Improved intersection treatments to facilitate safer turn movements, lighting and enhanced traffic flow.
- Dedicated cycle lanes and shared pathways
- Improved road drainage by installing kerb and channel as well as underground drainage to direct stormwater flows during storm events.
Land requirements
As part of our long-term planning for the upgrade and to meet Australian design standards, some land will need to be acquired to widen the road. This means some property boundaries will be realigned to accommodate the widening of the road.
We aim to minimise property impacts as much as possible.
