Project overview

With our city’s population set to increase by more than 50 per cent by 2041, improving our road network is one of the ways Logan City Council is preparing for the future.

As part of this, we are planning a long-term upgrade to widen and improve Bumstead Road from Clarke Road to Chambers Flat Road.

The Bumstead Road upgrade is being designed to improve traffic flow and create safer intersections to accommodate the expected traffic growth in the area.

Project timing

Preliminary design is complete. At this stage we do not have a timeline for detailed design work and construction.

We will keep the community updated as the project progresses.

Project features

The design includes:

  • signalised traffic signals at Julie Street, Geaney Boulevard, Judith Street and Pine Grove Drive
  • roundabout intersection upgrade at the Bumstead Road and Wisdom Way intersection
  • parking lanes on both sides of the road
  • improved bike riding and pedestrian facilities on both sides of Bumstead Road
  • enhanced flood protection over culvert crossings
  • new line marking, drainage and other associated road works.

Project benefits

The Bumstead Road Upgrade project will deliver a range of benefits, including:

  • safer intersections
  • better on-street parking
  • a safer environment for vehicles, people who ride bikes and pedestrians with dedicated cycle lanes and shared pathways on both sides of Bumstead Road.

Land requirements

In late 2020, we contacted property owners to discuss potential property impacts as a result of the necessary upgrade.

The project is currently funded to preliminary design and property acquisition.

Have your say

This project was part of the recent Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP) review.

The LGIP is a long-term plan over 15 years and outlines the infrastructure necessary to serve the community and support growth across the city. This includes water treatment facilities, sewerage treatment plants, major roads and parks.

The LGIP is designed to provide services in a coordinated and cost-effective way.

The review process also involved community consultation. You can find out more about it by visiting Updating Infrastructure Plans (LGIP v1.3)
