Project overview
With our city’s population set to increase by more than 50 per cent by 2041, improving our road network is one of the ways Logan City Council is preparing for the future.
As part of this, we are planning a long-term upgrade to widen and improve Bumstead Road from Clarke Road to Chambers Flat Road.
The Bumstead Road upgrade is being designed to improve traffic flow and create safer intersections to accommodate the expected traffic growth in the area.
Project timing
Preliminary design for the future upgrade of Bumstead Road is complete.
This design informed the land acquisition which has now been gazetted by the State Government.
The upcoming phase of the project will focus on evaluating the scope of property boundary reinstatements and advancing to detailed design to support construction. This will include assessing affordability and considering the potential for staging the work to align with population growth, while also securing the necessary funding.
Construction is anticipated to commence in the early 2030s. We will keep the community updated as the project progresses.
Project features
The design includes:
- signalised intersections with dedicated turn lanes at Julie Street, Geaney Boulevard, Judith Street and Pine Grove Drive
- a roundabout upgrade at the intesection of Bumstead Road and Wisdom Way
- parking lanes on both sides of the road
- active transport facilities including shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as dedicated on-road cycle lanes.
- signalised pedestrian crossing facilities
- concrete centre medians
- kerb and channelling on both sides of the road to improve catchment of stormwater flows
- improved flood immunity at culvert crossings
Project benefits
The Bumstead Road Upgrade project will deliver a range of benefits, including:
- improved traffic flow
- safer intersections
- more on-street parking
- a safer environment for vehicles, people who ride bikes and pedestrians, as traffic increases.
Land requirements
In late 2020, we contacted property owners to discuss potential property impacts as a result of the necessary upgrade.
The project is currently funded to preliminary design and property acquisition.
