Nominee guidelines

All nominees must agree to the terms and conditions for their nomination to be considered for a City of Logan Safe City Award.

  • You must only nominate within one category.
  • Where an individual, team, project or initiative has previously received a Safe City Award, a repeat nomination will not be accepted.
  • Nominations must relate to crime prevention/community safety work or initiatives delivered within the Logan City Council local government area.
  • You cannot be nominated if you work as an elected representative.
  • If you are nominated for work you have done as a volunteer, but you also work for Logan City Council, you will be required to declare a potential conflict-of-interest to determine your eligibility for a Safe City Award.
  • Please keep your original documents and supporting documentation as we cannot return it to you.
  • A ‘community place or space’ is a space that is public or semi-public located within Logan City local government area, that anyone within the community is legally allowed to access. Places such as parks, sport or recreational facilities, community facilities, shopping centres/complexes, business precincts, housing estates, industrial estates, streetscapes etc.
  • Judging will be via a pre-determined panel of Logan City Council employees, representatives from the Queensland Police Service and members of the Logan community.
  • The Judges decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding nominations and the judging process.

Category 1: Safer Community Places and Spaces

Development or modification to a community place or space, incorporating Crime Prevention through Environmental Design principles.

Criteria:

  • Demonstrated a situational or place-based approach to community safety/crime prevention.      
  • Utilised a minimum of 3 CPTED principles, as per best-practice CPTED Guidelines for Queensland, 2021.
  • Resulted in a measurable improvement to the prosocial activation and/or a reduction in crime or anti-social behaviour within the place/space.                                                                          
  • Evidenced the use of accessible design elements to enable all members of the Logan community, including culturally and linguistically diverse, people living with disability and marginalised groups, to safely access and utilise the place/space for the intended purpose.            

Category 2. Innovation in Community Safety/ Crime Prevention (online and/or in person)

Development and delivery of a program/initiative using an innovative approach or delivering an innovative solution to enhance community safety and crime prevention within the City of Logan.

Criteria:

  • Demonstrated an innovative approach to community safety/ crime prevention.
  • Resulted in a measurable improvement in community awareness, increased feelings of safety and/or reduced crime or antisocial behaviour in the City of Logan.
  • Evidenced consideration of accessibility needs to enable all members of the Logan community, including culturally and linguistically diverse, people living with disability and marginalised groups, to safely access, utilise and benefit from the innovation.  
  • Evidenced that the innovation has the potential to be replicated in other local government areas to raise awareness, increase feelings of safety and/or reduce crime and antisocial behaviour.

Category 3. Collaboration in Community Safety/ Crime Prevention (online and/or in person).

A community safety/crime prevention initiative designed and/or delivered collaboratively, evidencing coordination across multiple organisations or groups, to maximise positive outcomes for the City of Logan community.

Criteria:

  • Demonstrated the collaborative efforts of at least 2 or more organisations or groups in the delivery of a community safety/ crime prevention project or initiative.
  • Demonstrated that the collaboration involved a variety of diverse stakeholders, such as different levels of government, businesses, not-for-profit organisations, volunteers, or community groups.
  • Resulted in a measurable improvement in community awareness, increased feelings of safety and/or reduced crime or antisocial behaviour in the City of Logan.
  • Evidenced consideration of accessibility needs to enable all members of the Logan community, including culturally and linguistically diverse, people living with disability and marginalised groups, to access the information or outcomes delivered through the collaboration.

Terms and conditions

  1. All nominations are reviewed by Logan City Council staff to ascertain authenticity and eligibility against all terms and conditions. Logan City Council reserves the right to accept, clarify or reject an award nomination at any stage during the process, that is deemed by Logan City Council to not meet the required terms and conditions, with no right of review.
  2. Eligible entries are reviewed by the judging panel and the judges' decisions are final.
  3. Logan City Council’s decisions on all matters relating to the Safe City Awards are final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into regarding these decisions outside of the organisation or judging panel.
  4. All members of the judging panel will be required to declare potential conflicts of interest. If a conflict of interest is determined, the specific panel member will not participate in the assessment or decision-making for the nomination that the conflict of interest relates.
  5. Logan City Council’s Mayor and Divisional Councillors are ineligible for the Safe City Awards and will have no involvement in the assessment/ judging process.
  6. By submitting a nomination, the nominator confirms that the information supplied is true and correct.
  7. Nominees may be subject to a police check to meet eligibility requirements.
  8. Nominations will only be considered by the Safe City Awards judging panel in one category.
  9. If the specific work/ project or initiative being nominated has previously been acknowledged with a Safe City Award (in a previous year), it is ineligible and will not be considered for the 2024 awards.
  10. All documentation pertaining to nominations/ nominees/ nominators will be retained by Logan City Council and handled in accordance with Council’s Information Privacy Policy.
  11. Nominees must be aged 18 years and over.
