Logan City Council has an on-going advocacy program aimed at increasing Queensland and Federal Government investment in infrastructure and services that will benefit our residents and business owners. To find out more, see Advocacy.
The 2022 federal election was held on 21 May 2022. In the lead-up to the election, we called on local candidates, political parties, and party leaders to commit to funding projects that would enhance the liveability, safety and sustainability of the City of Logan.
We advocated for projects that would benefit each Logan electorate, as well as projects that would have a city-wide benefit. Our priorities were:
Reducing traffic congestion and improving roads:
- Proposed Greenbank Interchange (Middle and Teviot Roads)
- Loganlea Road widening project
- Underwood Road bus turnaround
- Jimboomba local road kerb and stormwater upgrades
Improving internet and mobile connectivity
- Internet connectivity and mobile blackspot coverage
Upgrading our safety, sport and recreation facilities
- Bethania to Logan Village recreational trail
- Park Ridge leisure centre and general community space
- Beenleigh Aquatic Centre Stage 2
- Waterford West District Park Stage 2
- Oliver's Precinct
- Logan Central Youth Centre
- Park Upgrades: Springwood Park Masterplan and Forestglen Park Masterplan
- CCTV safety cameras and room upgrade
- An Olympic venue for Logan
Protecting our environment
- Protection and recovery of threatened species in Logan
- Climate resilience actions
Our federal election advocacy campaign was effective in raising awareness and educating the community about project commitments that would enhance the liveability of their city. Our campaign also influenced funding commitments made by the major parties.
With its election to government, the Australian Labor Party (ALP) has confirmed funding of $24,497,500 in road and infrastructure improvements identified by Council as priorities for the city during the election. These commitments include:
- $22.5 million towards the widening of Loganlea Road between the Logan Motorway and the Pacific Motorway on-ramp
- $800,000 for the installation of 10 new safety cameras across Councils Safety Camera Network and upgrades to the camera safety room
- $357,500 to improve the bus turnaround on Underwood Road near Underwood Park
- $840,000 towards the delivery of a new youth centre in Logan Central
Additional election commitments made by the ALP included:
- $2.3 million to build a new skills lab at Loganlea Campus of TAFE
- Funding over the next 4 years to trial 50 new Urgent Care Clinics across Australia, with one potentially located in the City of Logan
- Review of the Inland Rail project which includes the Kagaru to Acacia Ridge and Bromelton section through Logan
