Microchipping your pet

All cats and dogs born after 1 July 2009 must have a microchip.

We offer discounted microchipping services to pet owners in the City of Logan at our Animal Management Centre. Our trained staff will implant your pet’s microchip for only $20.

No appointment is necessary and walk-ups are welcome. We ask that you follow our terms and conditions for microchipping.

To save time when you bring your pet in for microchipping, download and fill in the Microchip registration form (PDF 527 KB).

Why microchip your pet?

The great thing about a microchip, unlike a collar or tag, is that it can't get lost. The procedure is quick and almost painless for your pet. It takes longer for you to fill out the paperwork than for a microchip to be implanted.

How can I tell if my pet is microchipped?

If you think your pet is already microchipped but can't find the details, we can check for a microchip. Bring your pet to the Animal Management Centre and we’ll record the microchip number for you

Microchips are usually located between your pet’s shoulder blades, but can sometimes move a little. If we can’t find one, you will need to have your pet microchipped.  You can also take your pet to a local vet to be scanned.

Microchipping does not replace your pet’s registration with us.

Updating your pet’s microchip details

Remember to update your pet’s microchip details if you move address or change your contact details.

To change your pets microchip details, use the Pet Address website. You will need your pet’s 15-digit microchip number. The site will tell you who your pet’s microchip is registered with so you can contact them directly to update any details.
