Volunteers & Foster Carers
Volunteer program
The Volunteer program allows residents to participate in tasks which add value to the care and wellbeing of the animals, but are not considered routine and part of a paid employee's role.
Volunteers can also assist with tours conducted at the Animal Management Centre.
The Animal Management Centre is currently seeking expressions of interest from residents who are experienced in animal grooming (particularly hydrobathing experience) and/or amateur photography.
The likelihood of animals having a second chance will be greatly enhanced by these volunteer services.
Photographers will see their work on display on Council's PetNet as well as on notice boards in the Sales kennels for dogs and cats. Groomers and Hydrobathers will take pleasure in seeing their workmanship contribute to the sucessful rehoming of the animals.
Interested? Please review the Volunteer Services Handbook (PDF 4113 KB) and then complete the Volunteer Services Application (PDF 160 KB).
For your application to be processed, you will need to attend the Animal Management Centre at 213 Queens Road, Kingston to complete your Queensland Police Authoriy and Indemnification form. You will also need to provide a copy of your current photo identification (Driver's licence or passport).
Foster Carer program
The Foster carer program involves the use of foster carers to house mother cats and dogs and their litter offsite to the Animal Management Centre to minimise and control disease exposure and transfer.
Appropriate nurturing and care is required and must be provided on a consistent basis and sometimes constantly.
Newly born puppies and kittens that have been impounded and are too young to move straight into Council's rehoming program, will have the opportunity to have home stays with foster carers until they are of an age where they can safely be placed in our sale program.
