What is Council Doing?

Improving energy efficiency

Following the completion of an emissions audit, Council began a process of improving energy efficiency by installing energy efficient lighting and air conditioning across a number of facilities. The projects completed so far are now saving Council an estimated $79,000 per year and have reduced Council's carbon dioxide emissions by 478 tonnes per year.

Reducing emissions

As the sustainability, climate change, and energy efficiency technology fields are moving so fast, Council is in a continual state of research, consultation and collaboration to find new opportunities to reduce emissions from its operations and from the Logan community in general. Where possible, opportunities to reduce emissions are being incorporated into the new Logan City Council Planning Scheme.

Helping the community

Council is doing its part to help the business and residential community reduce their emissions through publications, website content, events such as the Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) and public forums. Council recently collaborated with an SEQ solar company to make affordable energy efficient hot water systems and solar PV systems available to the Logan community.

Adapting to climate change

In 2009, Council commissioned a detailed study on the risks to the City associated with the changing climate and the drafting of an associated action plan. Logan aims to be as resilient to the impacts of climate change as possible. Recommendations from the study are being incorporated into the draft Climate Change and Peak Oil Strategy.
