Rebates
Hot water rebates
Because of the significantly reduced electricity use and associated carbon dioxide emissions of solar and heat pump hot water systems compared to mains electric systems, both the State and Federal Governments provide large financial incentives to encourage uptake.
- Queensland Government Solar Hot Water Rebate
- Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme
- Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
Total possible rebates for replacing a mains electric hot water system with an energy efficient model is about $2,600 or about $3,000 for pensioners.
Solar PV rebates
- RECs for solar PV systems are subject to the Solar Credits multiplier, which means that in excess of $2,000 worth of RECs are currently available to those who install solar PV systems.
- The Solar Bonus Scheme provided by the state government pays a PV owner a feed-in-tariff of 44 cents per kilowatt hour for all surplus electricity.
Over 5,500 Logan households now have a solar PV system installed.
Climate Smart Home Service
Through the Climate Smart Home Service, an electrician will visit participating households and supply up to 15 energy efficient light globes, a water saver showerhead, and an energy monitor. All for only $50. Using these appliances could save up to $325 a year in electricity costs.
Over 10,000 Logan households (11% of all Logan households) have now taken part in this service.
Ezy Green
An on-line based resource, Ezy Green provides numerous opportunities to reduce energy use and carbon dioxide emissions.
Over 2,000 Logan households have signed up to Ezy Green.
Reverse The Effect
Reverse The Effect is a program where the State Government provides half the cost of offsetting the carbon dioxide emissions from a car. This drops the cost of offsetting the emissions of an average car from $118 to $59 a year.
Pensioner rebates
Pensioners can receive a rebate of up to $216 a year from the state government to help cover their electricity bill. A subsidy on water costs of up to $100 per year can also be obtained through the Pensioner Water Subsidy Scheme.
Medical rebates
Financial help is available for those with certain medical conditions such as MS via the Medical Cooling and Heating Concession Scheme. A rebate is also available for those using life support equipment such as an oxygen concentrator or a kidney dialysis machine via the Electricity Life Support Concession Scheme.
Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme
Financial help is available for low income earners who are experiencing short term financial hardship and can't pay their power bill. More information can be obtained from the Energy Ombudsman.
